JOB SUMMARY:
Industrial Engineer I is an entry-level role responsible for supporting operational efficiency, productivity, and process improvement initiatives across Retail Stores, Distribution Center, and Corporate Operations. This position applies engineering principles, data analysis, and work measurement techniques to evaluate current-state processes and assist in designing future-state solutions.
The Industrial Engineer will work closely with a senior industrial engineer, Business Process Analysts and cross-functional partners to learn the business, develop engineering discipline, and contribute to measurable improvements in labor productivity, process efficiency, and operational consistency.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Process Improvement & Engineering
- Support the evaluation, design, measurement, and improvement of business workflows to increase efficiency, productivity, quality, and profitability.
- Assist in conducting time studies, work measurement analyses, and method observations for retail stores and distribution operations
- Participate in process mapping, documentation, and development of standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Collect and analyze operational data related to labor, volume, equipment, space utilization, and methods
- Assist in identifying waste, bottlenecks, and variation within processes and recommend improvement opportunities
Labor Standards & Analytics
- Support the development, maintenance, and validation of engineered labor standards
- Assist with labor analytics, productivity reporting, and performance measurement
- Learn and apply standardized work measurement methodologies under guidance of senior engineers
- Ensure data accuracy and documentation integrity for standards and analytical outputs
Project & Cross Functional Support
- Support assigned Continuous Improvement and Operational Excellence projects
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Operations, Training, IT, HR, and Leadership
- Assist project teams with research, data gathering, and statistical analysis
- Participate in pilot testing, implementation support, and post-implementation review
Continuous Improvement & Development
- Learn and apply Continuous Improvement principles and engineering problem-solving methodologies
- Contribute to Continuous Improvement reporting related to compliance, sustainability, and performance metrics
- Maintain organized project documentation and analytical files
- Actively develop engineering, communication, and business acumen skills through hands-on experience
- Any other duties as required
REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related field
- Internship, co-op, or project experience in operations, manufacturing, distribution, or retail environments preferred but not required
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data
- Familiarity with basic industrial engineering concepts such as time study, process mapping, and workflow analysis
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; exposure to data visualization or analytical tools a plus
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to observe operations, document processes, and interact professionally with hourly and management teams
- Curious, detail-oriented, and eager to learn
- Comfortable working in operational environments (stores, distribution centers, offices)
- Able to take direction, accept feedback, and progressively operate more independently
- Demonstrates professionalism, integrity, and teamwork
